The number of injuries suffered in the June 3, 1980 Grand Island tornadoes remains inexact even today.
The Tornado Project and High Plains Climate Center list the total injuries as either 202 or 200. The number is listed as 193 by the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency.
The Independent reported a total of 302 people treated for injuries within 36 hours of the tornado event. St. Francis Medical Center had treated and released 148 people and the Lutheran Hospital another 118. Also, 22 people were admitted to St. Francis and 14 to Lutheran, but within two weeks none of those remaining in the hospital were in serious condition.
